The Girl From Barcelona, 2nd Edition
July 21, 2022
Why is there a second edition of The Girl From Barcelona?
There are no changes to the story itself. The plot and characters are exactly the same.
However, the 2nd Edition published in 2022 adds two features not included in the 1st Edition—a new section at the start of Chapter One, and a list of Principal Characters.
After the 1st edition of The Girl From Barcelona was published in 2017, I met with a lot of readers. At bookstore signings and book clubs, readers wanted to talk about Daniela. They loved the story, which was very encouraging. Many were fascinated by this young and amazing girl. They wanted to know more about her background and what drives her.
Daniela is a complex character. The personal traumas she went through at an early age were horrendous. Yet, she is amazingly determined and strong. She overcame huge challenges to set out on an astonishing journey that thrust her onto the global stage—as a deep undercover agent tracking one of the world’s most powerful and elusive terrorist leaders. As readers will discover, she goes rogue and becomes a fugitive.
I had kept back of lot of her personal background details for later—to reveal as a “surprise” in Book 3. On reflection, I remembered the advice frequently given to new authors—to make sure readers can identify with the protagonist early in the story. That’s a challenge when you want your heroine to stay in the shadows of deep undercover work and remain “mysterious” until the end. Readers needn’t worry: they will discover a lot more about the fascinating Daniela—and her emergence as a superspy. The question remains: Whose side is she really on?
I added a list of principal characters because it’s something that readers asked for. Including this feature in the 2nd Edition allows first-time readers to keep tabs on who’s who early in the plot, when they are just getting to know the characters. In addition, coming soon on this website, I will be introducing a “Behind the Book” page, providing more details that I think readers will like.
Enjoy the story!
