North Shore Libraries Celebrate Local Authors
January 27, 2020
For generations, public libraries have played a vital role in their communities. They have brought books and a love of reading and discovery to millions of people. They have evolved over the years into community spaces—becoming vibrant centres of learning. They have always been in the “inspiration business;” now, they are upping the ante yet again—celebrating and inspiring writers, as well as readers.
Libraries on Vancouver’s north shore recently launched a new partnership initiative: North Shore Authors Collection, showcasing local talent. This is great news for writers in our community!
This initiative was launched with great success in November 2019 at West Vancouver Memorial Library. Three author reading events are planned this winter—the first to take place at North Vancouver City Hall on January 29, 2020 at 6 pm. Details are available on the participating libraries’ websites:

West Vancouver Memorial Library: westvanlibrary.ca/events/calendar/month
Admission is free, and everyone is invited to attend. Each evening begins with participating authors reading a brief excerpt from their published work, followed by a “meet and greet” and the opportunity to purchase books personally signed by the authors.
“The success of this initiative has taken us by surprise, but in a good way,” said North Vancouver City librarian Sarah Tarcee. “There has been tremendous enthusiasm and support for the program, and our intention at the three north shore libraries is to continue it annually for as long as there is public interest.”
The three libraries will accept submissions for the 2020-21 program, commencing April 2020.
Local authors and our local libraries are a powerful combination. Together, they are a vital part of the rich literary fabric of healthy and enlightened communities. Come along to some author readings and join in the fun.
See you there!
